An Urgent Focus

Environmentally Sustainable Development is More Important than ever

Early in my professional career, I worked with a great mentor, Alana Probst, on solutions that could build the local economy while simultaneously enhancing the environment. This focus is about local places, their history, the unique faces and talents of the local community, and the plants, animals, soil, and waterways that sustain and recreate these. We in Tippecanoe County need such a focus right now. We are in a boom economy, where we risk losing our character and our land to unbridled growth. But with some redirection and a lot of creative ideas from among our neighbors, we can actually revitalize our boarded up rural towns and remake our cityscapes before we end up as some of those northern Indiana cities that went through development booms without broad visions to preserve our heritage and our land.

Solar energy is important for this focus, which is why I support the organizations that champion it, such as Solar United Neighbors. Solar provides energy, and can improve soil if managed properly with groundcover and no use of glyphosate. And, solar doesn't consume water resources. This is very different from data centers, so don't link them in your mind please.

My Priorities

My first priority is restoring transparency and accountability in county government. Residents deserve to know how decisions are made, how money is spent, and whether projects are delivering results. I will publish clear, accessible updates on county spending, capital projects, and timelines, so people can see what's working and where there are challenges.

My second priority is prioritizing sustainability and equity in development. Tippecanoe county is growing quickly, and we need to ensure that changes we make strengthen our communities instead of straining them. That means prioritizing infill and redevelopment, aligning new infrastructure with actual needs, and making sure development reflects sustainability and community guidelines we develop. One way to ensure that is to create a new Strategic Development Plan. The last one was adopted October 23, 1981.

A well‑defined APC strategic plan provides a framework for managing growth, aligning infrastructure investments with land‑use goals, and ensuring that zoning decisions support long‑term community priorities. It also helps residents understand how decisions are made and how different jurisdictions work together.

YOUR VOICE MATTERS

Join us in fostering a transparent and engaged Tippecanoe community.

As a candidate for County Commissioner, I firmly believe that every resident of Tippecanoe County deserves the freedom to express themselves and gather peacefully.

I am dedicated to keeping our public spaces open and accessible for peaceful assembly, while ensuring that our county ordinances are fair and transparent never used to silence dissent.

I will support budget priorities for de-escalation and civil rights training, to ensure that civic participation is encouraged. Together we can build a stronger community, where "the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances" is respected.

County government is the closest government to your daily life, yet it often operates behind closed doors with limited transparency. This creates a gap where decisions feel predetermined, communication is lacking, and many voices go unheard.

I believe in changing that by making county governance open, accountable, and truly participatory. Your concerns deserve to be heard, and decisions should be made with you, not to you.

Together, we can build a county government that works for everyone, ensuring our roads are safe, our neighborhoods thrive, and our communities remain vibrant and viable for generations to come.
